The ‘CT season is now officially three events into the 2023 season and the first perfect 10 was just awarded to Aussie Callum Robson in the men’s elimination round at the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal. With just a few minutes on the clock in his matchup against Maxime Huscenot and Gabriel Medina and needing a massive score to avoid elimination, a thick bomb approached the lineup. Robson swung, airdropped into oblivion and pulled into the craziest drainer we’ve seen all weekend. At his exit, the judges swiftly awarded him a well-deserved 10.
“It feels really good,” said Callum in his post-heat interview. “Especially in a situation where I really needed it, [being] in an elimination round and needing an 8. The fact that I got an opportunity to get a wave and the fact that I capitalized on it, I was super stoked.”
“I paddled for the first wave and it kind of put me a lot further in,” continued Robson. “Maxine was on the outside trying to get it and I knew I had priority so I just paddled out as fast as I could, turned……then kind of threw my board and then was like, ‘oh my god I made it. [I] made the drop and then I was in there and it fully sucked me back and I was like, ‘Please let me out, please let me out’ and then it let me out. I was so happy I was clapping so hard that my hands are sore.”
Stay tuned for more action as the event nears the finals.
