The visual creatives behind “Free Scrubber”, “Postcards From Morgs”, and “The Search” are back with another banger of a surf film. Filmmaker Nick Pollet and journalist/artistic genius Vaughan Blakey just dropped the trailer to their new half-stop-motion, completely outrageous (in the best way) full-length feature, fittingly titled “The Greatest Surf Movie in the Universe”.
Unlike most standard rip edits, the above film (set to premiere in Torquay, Victoria on April 3) leans heavily into humor and pokes fun at surfing as a whole. “The Greatest Surf Movie in the Universe” features the voices and surfing of Mick Fanning, Matt Wilkinson, Griffin Colapinto, Mason Ho, Craig Anderson, Joe Turpel, and more.
“A long long time ago when @nickpollet and I first started working together he had this little stop motion animation on his phone that he was convinced would be a great foundation for a surf movie,” writes Vaughan in the above post. “I remember thinking “meh.” Three years and 10,000 hours later and this insane project is actually finished and coming out. Can’t really explain how ridiculous this whole journey has been but I will say Nick is a freak, a lovely, kind and gentle but driven creative powerhouse who somehow has pulled off the impossible. His family Sharna, Zimi and Jet are even more amazing for allowing a grown man to play in his shed with his dollys while the real world spun wildly around him. I just wanna say thanks for getting me involved Nick. This film will probably kill our reputations but it was worth it man I love what we’ve made.”
Stay tuned for more info on premiere dates and when/how you can catch the film.
