Shipstern’s Bluff put Tasmania squarely on the map.
The gurgling slab has provided some of surfing’s most spectacular moments. See: Laurie Towner’s paddle beast from 2006. Shipstern’s is so impressive, in fact, that it’s basically overshadowed an entire island of good waves for the past two decades. When people think Tasmania, they think Shipstern’s.
With this short clip, Kelly Nordstrom, Marti Paradisis, Tyler Holmer Cross, and Kyle Cooper are changing our perception. While Shipstern’s still plays a starring role (and deservingly ends this edit) the rest of the waves are totally foreign, and prove Tasmania is as wide ranging a destination as anywhere else in the world. From 10-second tubes, to wild beach break wedges, this clip sheds a new light on surfing in Tasmania.
