It’s festival season in the Northern Hemisphere, and the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is underway in the desert with two weekends of live music, surprise guests, and hordes of sweaty, intoxicated fans.
Every year, the iconic Coachella lineup poster is a signpost of the current cultural zeitgeist. It reflects the popular trends, foresees trends to come, brings back former bands for a nostalgic reunion set, and always causes somewhat of stir in the festival-loving community.
But what if the lineup for Coachella was based on the current surf world climate?
The folks behind Surfvival League, an alternative betting forum for competitive surfing, did just that in their version of the ever-popular, always-entertaining mock Coachella lineup posters. Highlights from the fictional reimagining of the festival include:
“Slater ft. Pearl Jam” (Slater and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder are buddies; and they’ve played together in the past.)
“Nate Florence explains NFTS”
“Kai Lenny foils the irrigation ditch out back”
“Fisher (acoustic)” (Paul Fisher, former pro surfer turned world-famous EDM DJ, has played Coachella in the past…but, acoustic?)
“Guy in parking lot telling you it was better an hour ago”
“Goons of Doom” (Ozzie Wright’s very real, very fun party band)
“Momentum Generation acapella”
Anyway, you get the gist. Well done, Surfvival League.
