Logan “Chucky” Dulien has seen a lot of good surfing over the years.
He’s the filmmaker behind the ongoing Snapt series, which dates back to 2002 and features heavy-hitters in the surf world across numerous generations. And so, when he comments on someone’s ability in the water, you can take his word for it.
His latest subject of surfing greatness? 13-year-old “All Day” Dylan Wilcoxen.
“In my opinion @alldaydylan is the best 13-year-old surfer in the world,” Dulien wrote, “in the barrel or above the lip he’s the real deal all day everyday.”
Dylan, the son of “All Day” Ray Wilcoxen, has grown up at Kandui Resort in the Mentawai Islands – a hotbed of some of the world’s best waves, often appropriately nicknamed “Surfing’s Disneyland.” So, it makes sense that he would really good at surfing, really fast.
Comments on the post included:
“How good’s the kids style.”
“Bruce Irons relived.”
“The progression is insane so formed out.”
“Only getting started.”
According to his main sponsor, Rip Curl:
“Dylan has been on a surfboard since his dad was standing him up on a longboard when he was still in diapers. He lives at Kandui Resort in arguably the best surfing region in the world, with lower than average crowds and lots of barrels. It will be interesting to see what this unique environment makes out of Dylan. Less urgency to find a good wave to surf and more time to just let style develop naturally may produce quite a surfer.”
Keep an eye on this kid; he’s going places.
