You know the guy. The one on the wave of the swell at Puerto Escondido in the summer and again at Off-the-Wall in Hawaii a few months later. Come springtime he’s in the Caribbean and, yet again, there he is on YouTube or Instagram, standing tall in a dreamy crystal-blue tube.
But who is that guy?
Nate Zoller.
Zoller’s made a career out of chasing pumping waves all around the world. While he isn’t the biggest name, and he doesn’t have the biggest sponsors, he still makes it work by getting creative with his work. Writing for the surf mags (RIP). Filming for a project. Or, in this case, teaming up with Waves For Water to install water filtration filters to schools in under-served communities in Mexico.
“This is the result of a swell chase combined with a Waves for Water initiative, “ says Zoller. “A successful trip, consisting of righthand point breaks each morning and helping to install water filtration systems at local schools in the afternoons.”
The ultimate win-win. And as you’ll see, instant (good) karma for Zoller in the water.
