Last week, we brought you some highlights from eight-year-old surfer, Zacky Taylor, and his recent trip to Waco Surf in Texas.
And now, we’ve got a new clip for your peepers, one featuring Zacky stomping his first-ever air reverse in the pool. Give it a watch below:
“Everything’s bigger in Texas, especially your first air reverse,” the video is captioned.
Impressive. In a wavepool or in the ocean. The kid is just eight years old for chrissakes.
But more than anything, the clip is proof of how wavepools are reshaping innovation and the speed of individual improvement in the sport of surfing.
In the old days – like, a couple years ago – surfers would have to wait for the perfect conditions, the perfect ramp, to try a trick like this. You might only get a handful of chances in an entire year, if you’re lucky. But now, with wavepools, they can have that same ramp on repeat, and attempt the trick over and over again under the exact same conditions, until they stomp it. Similar to a skatepark or a ski mountain terrain park.
Just a few years ago, when Zacky was five years old, he was being pushed into waves at Waco Surf, crawling to his feet, and pulling into the tube. Now look at him. Proof that wavepools are an accelerant to surf performance.
Yes, the wavepool revolution is here. And surfing will never be the same.
