From Code Red To Code Rain: What a difference a day makes in Tahiti.
Yesterday Teahupo’o was 12-feet, under blue skies and light winds, and the world’s best big wave surfers put on a spectacular show. If you missed it, you can relive all of the action here.
Today, however, a torrential downpour resulted in a devastating flash flood, with cars being swept into the lagoon at Teahupo’o, and homes going underwater. It’s a terrible situation for the most welcoming community in the surf world.
With most of the big wave surf community from around the globe still in Tahiti, guys like John and Nathan Florence and Koa Rothman are drawing attention to the dire situation, in hopes of raising awareness (and money) for the local community. Considering how much Teahupo’o gives the surf community, right now is a wonderful opportunity to give back.
“We lost our houses, we lost our cars, some families lost everything! We need you! The river broke and most of the houses nearby were underwater. My name is Hinatea and I will try to raise as much as possible money or anything to help the local community here. Thank you for sharing!”
If you’ve ever been to Tahiti, or if you enjoyed watching the show at heart-stopping Teahupo’o yesterday, please consider clicking on this link and donating to the local community at the end of the road. They can use all of the help they can get right now.
