Maui’s wildfire survivors are still healing from the tragic disaster that destroyed Lahaina, took homes and lives, and ravaged island life.
Members of the surf community have been proactive in helping residents recover and heal from the fires, as we recently reported.
Big wave charger Keala Kennelly is the latest surfer using her voice to help Maui residents. She took to Instagram over the weekend to spread awareness about a lawsuit being filed on behalf of the islanders.
In the clip above, Kennelly gives details about the lawsuit and says:
“I want to see you guys get as much help as you can to keep your land, rebuild your homes, and try to put your lives back together.”
Captioning the clip, Kennelly wrote:
“My Maui people. I found out there is a Lawsuit being filed on behalf of the victims of the Lahaina Wildlife.
“If you were impacted by the wildfires, Takitani, Agaran, Jorgensen, & Wildman have partnered with Morgan & Morgan to fight to help you.
“If you or anyone you know has been affected, you can visit www.forthepeople.com/kealakennelly or call or text (808) 201-4442#ad #MauiStrong@forthepeople“
One viewer from Mauin responded:
“People of Lahaina like us should be very careful who they choose to represent them if they choose to go that route. We are vulnerable. Your guys may be great but maybe not, we are not familiar with them.
“We have lost everything and been approached by MANY law firms locally who have partnered with big guns on the mainland. We have learned there are decent law firms and predatory ones. FYI, Respectfully passing along this info for the people of Lahaina like us seeing this.”
Kennelly replied:
“yes please do research and don’t get taken advantage of. I know every land investor and ambulance chaser is trying to capitalize off your tragedy.
“I’m sharing information hoping it is helpful to the victims. Praying for you guys every day.”
A notice at the bottom of the video says:
