Matahi Drollet is one of the best barrel riders at Teahupo’o. He’s so good that Surfer dubbed him the “prince of Teahupo’o” last year.
When he was just 16, he won the XXL award for surfing one of the biggest and heaviest waves at the notorious surf break. This year, he scored a coveted invite to one of the most prestigious surf contests in the world, the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational.
So when you’ve had more than your fair share of perfect waves at Chopes, maybe it’s a little tough to change it up, hence the clip below.
In the post above, Drollet takes it to a whole new level.
He captioned the clip:
“Balancing Laziness🪑@hurley @takumaconcept“
In the video, Drollet goes frontside in a huge barrel at Teahupo’o while sitting down on a foil board.
It gives a new meaning to the term “La-Z-Boy.”

Other surfers were stoked—and a little baffled—in the comments. Check out a few below:
Tom Carroll: “❤️”
Jack Robinson: “kumbaya Just chillin”
Selema Masekela: “how?”
Tahura Henry: “Laziness or extra focus ?”
Barron Kamiya: “Crazy man”
Drollet’s been leading the charge to protect Teahupo’os reef at since October when Tahitians peacefully protested the $5 million aluminum judging tower 2024 Olympic Games organizers want to construct at the beloved surf break.
Surfer’s Jake Howard reported last week:
“The battle over Teahupo’o has grown especially dire this week at Paris 2024 organizers and the French Polynesian government confirmed that construction would move forward despite the ISA, Olympic surfing’s governing body, making an official statement that they would not support the project.”
Drollet’s thoughts on the project can be heard here.
