The 2023/24 Pacific surf season is shaping up to be one for the books.
A seemingly endless parade of swell has been dancing around Hawaii and California in direct succession, creating some of the biggest waves seen in recent memory at spots like Mavericks, in addition to carnage impacting coastal infrastructure.
In California, down south in San Diego and up north at Mavericks have been surfing highlights thus far; but what about Orange County?
Yep, it’s been cranking, too…if you know where to look.
And one heavy shorebreak tube machine in particular, which did its best impression of Pipeline during the recent run of surf. Per Skid Kids:
“This past week of Swell has been Non-stop in Orange County. The Largest waves I have seen in my 28 years of existence occurred on this day. The morning high tides paired with a building swell led to some extremely heavy and dangerous shorebreak waves.
“Only a select few surfers were able to complete rides this day, and many didn’t even make it out with a board in one piece. Yadin Nicole, Blair Conklin, and Tyler Stanaland had some stand out performances with several critical drops and completed barrel rides.
“Body Boarders were getting spit out of lefts and right on just about every peak that came in. All in all, this was one of the best days of barrel riding I have seen at this beach and hopefully it is the first of many to come in this El Niño fueled winter.
“Keep the kegs a coming!”
More to come – hopefully.
