The Fanning family recently suffered yet another tragic loss.
Ed Fanning, brother to three-time World Surf League champion, tragically passed away while working at a surf camp in Madagascar just over two weeks ago.
And Mick, along by friends and family, honored Ed with a ceremonial paddle out.
Captioning a video showing throwback footage of the Fanning boys growing up, following the paddle out at Snapper Rocks on Australia’s Gold Coast, Mick wrote:
“Today we gathered to celebrate the life of Ed. I want to thank my family and friends for all the amazing support they have shown not only me but everyone that loved Ed. It was a beautiful day with so many amazing people coming together.
“I know Ed is always with me. The memories and good times we shared for so many years will always be with me. I give thanks for that.
“Some incredible stories were told today as people telling their versions of the funny and wild shit he used to do. Please keep telling them as Ed would want you all to laugh.”
Late last month, the Kirra Surfriders Club gave more details into Ed’s tragic, sudden death:
“It’s with a very sad and heavy heart that we say goodbye to one of our great and beloved KSC members Ed Fanning.
“As many of you know Ed had been living and working in Madagascar since covid and loved the place so much he took citizenship over there. Ed received a cut to his foot which unfortunately got severely infected to the point he had to be rush by boat to the nearest major city an hour away, to be in hospital.
“The hospital did everything they could to help Ed but the infection was too strong and Ed’s heart gave away.
Our biggest condolences go out to the whole Fanning Family in this very difficult time.
“And I’d also like to say a massive thank you to another great KSC member in Blair Rodgers who was by Ed’s side thru out this whole ordeal and has been a massive help to the Fanning Family working their way thru this.
“RIP Legend.”
