From Alaska to Africa and Tahiti to the Telos, Torren Martyn‘s 10-year highlight reel is one of the most awe-inspiring edits we’ve watched. With shades of Taylor Steele‘s “Sipping Jetstreams”, this curation of Martyn’s A+ clips at some of surfing’s most fickle and famous waves will leave you in a trance.
“‘Reflection’ featuring Martyn is an eclectic mix of moments and highlights from a decade of travels around the world,” writes Needessentials, who produced this clip. “This short film by Ishka Folkwell, with an original soundtrack by Headland, celebrates some of the most memorable waves and adventures from feature films “Calypte,” “Lost Track Atlantic” and “Lost Track New Zealand.”
In this seven-minute edit, Martyn shows his range, both in the way he rides a surfboard and the places he’s willing to travel to score perfect waves. From a year spent sailing around Indonesia, to posting up in the coldest corners of the globe waiting out snowstorms, Martyn’s commitment to perfection has paid off in spades. While the entire film is filled with mind melting waves, the electric blue slab Martyn slides into at 4:13 might be every surfers dream.
While the individual films these clips are from are all amazing, there’s something special about compiling the best of the best from each of them and then scoring it all to an original song. “Reflection” is a wonderful way for Martyn to reflect on a life well traveled, and it’s one of the most beautiful films we’ve ever seen in surf.
