While it’s not quite Pipeline, the crowd at Uluwatu comes close.
But that’s no matter for Mason Ho, one of the best in the world at navigating a crowded wave. Ho has an innate ability to find the soft spots in a lineup, and then exploit them.
This new clip is case in point.
During a recent day at busy Ulu’s, Ho paddled out with his sister, Coco, Nathan Hedge and Harry Bryant. Despite other surfers consistently being deeper, Ho finds himself on most of the best sets, using his spidey sense to position himself perfectly for each one of ‘em. Some surfers simply have that gift. Of course, being one of the best tuberiders in the world also goes a long way. And, that smile.
While Coco doesn’t see as many opportunities, she still packs a pair of bombs from deep. An ageless Hedge gets as barreled as ever, and Bryant sits on mop up duty on the end bowl, slicing and dicing the wide ones on a yellowed 6’6 that looks like it’s been in a garage since the 1990s.
The Ho’s, Harry and Hedge are a very unique pairing for a session, which makes this clip all the more entertaining. It’s also a reminder of just how beautiful Uluwatu really is. With the controversial seawall project underway just up the road, we can only hope this wave stays this pristine and perfect forever. A crowded Uluwatu is better than no Uluwatu at all.
