Looking for an excuse to kill your productivity today? We’ve got you covered. Rouge TV has set up a livestream from the channel at Teahupo’o, where a massive southwest swell is hitting the reef as we speak.
Paddlers were out at first light this morning. But the swell is peaking in the afternoon at a staggering 12 feet at 16 seconds. That type of energy puts Teahupo’o into borderline territory — paddleable, but only just. And the occasional 12-foot slab keeps everyone honest.

On top of the bounty of talented locals who will be sending it today, there’s another layer of intrigue on the French Polynesian island. Most of the Championship Tour has arrived to prepare for their final regular season event of 2025, the Lexus Tahiti Pro. The contest window starts Thursday, August 7, and there is still heaps of energy coming out of the South Pacific for the duration of the event.
Some CTers have snagged waves this morning, while getting in with two hands is still (barely) feasible. Barron Mamiya had a proper pin drop into the trough, Leo Fioravanti found a tube more square than round, and João Chianca is getting hyped with his big bro, Lucas “Chumbo” Chianca, who tends to thrive in situations like this. And Eimeo Czermak paddled into a crazy one because he just does that.
It begs the question: will we see CT surfers grab a rope and take a crack at the slab today or play it safe before the event? I saw a clip yesterday of Jack Robinson prepping his tow board ready for this very swell. Keep an eye out. Yesterday was big. Today is bigger. Time to tune in.
