It reads like a movie script. From sponsored grom to family man to blue-collar tradie to inking deals with marquee surf brands. That’s the cliffnotes of Tom Myers, who you may remember as the man who threaded not one but two Jaws doppelgänger barrels at a bombie outside of Sydney, Australia, this year. The heavy-water chops he showed earned him global recognition and Men’s Ride of the Year honors at the 2025 Big Wave Challenge earlier this month.

Just before the awards, however, Tom signed sponsorship deals with three surfing brands. At age 33, he’s now a team rider for Florence, Pyzel Surfboards and Veia. It’s the type of grassroots, everyman story that warms the saltiest heart. This is a guy who works two jobs, has a third kid on the way, runs his local boardriders club and broke the internet (twice) just by putting his head down on seriously big waves.
But Tom doesn’t only have a nose for big waves. Recently, he was spotted teeing off at Lower Trestles on a fresh Pyzel. Turns out the guy used to be sponsored by Quiksilver as a grom and has retained some elasticity. Hit play below to see for yourself.
With some extra coin in the pocket (and Pyzels in the quiver), Tom should have more chances to chase swells on his own time. Hopefully, with a Florence or two in tow. He may surprise yet again.
“Definitely wasn’t something I expected this year,” Tom said in disbelief while holding the Ride of the Year trophy in Newport Beach. “I’m in a season of life where I’ve got my third young kid coming. I’ll have three under 5. I work two jobs and it’s not really the time to be chasing swells. So to see a purple blob pop up on the charts and call in sick to work and go surfing, for that to happen was incredible.”
