Towards the bookend of September, like a smooch goodbye from summer, a hurricane swell graced the shores of Southern California with waves.
From San Diego to Orange County to a little bit in Los Angeles, and pockets further north, many summertime haunts lit up with swell from Hurricane Narda – the prolonged Category 2 storm, which stayed out to sea, and sent surf towards shore.
In San Diego, off the private, Christian college of Point Loma Nazarene, the waves only accessible by boat saw some action. But one boat, in particular, got into trouble. It got caught inside by a wave, and instead of taking the whitewater head-on, or gunning it straight, the boat surfed the wave. And rather expertly, actually. Watch below.

The footage comes from Jaron Jetton on TikTok. It appears to be a response of some sort to another user on the platform, who wrote: “It’s 1ft lads.” The video seems to be a show of force that it was not, in fact, one foot. It was much bigger.
When we hit up Jetton for more info on the situation, he told SURFER:
“We saw that moments after what happened to us. He barely got out of that. He was way too inside. Yeah, pretty crazy.”

Referring to what happened to him and his crew, they nearly got caught inside as well. Video shows them standing on the boat with a wave approaching. But they gunned the engine and get out of there. And luckily, they didn’t get caught inside.

For more on that situation, and the session in general, Jetton explained:
“We were surfing this swell that came in out of Point Loma Ralph’s. We were going out, it was foggy, and we finally found the break. We parked outside, surfed a little, then got back to the boat and were cruising in slowly. Then we stopped for a little, just to watch. It doesn’t look that big on camera, but fuck it was big in person. There were rollers, and that specific roller looked like it was going to break. We threw it into gear, and we were fine. Pretty insane, pretty fun day. Maybe 8-12 foot. There were definitely some big waves on the sets.”
