It’s been over two months since a trio of surfers went missing, and were subsequently found dead, in Baja, Mexico. And since then, amidst global mourning, authorities have been investigating and arresting those involved in the carjacking gone awry.
Australian natives and brothers Callum and Jake Robinson (33 and 30, respectively), and American Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, were last seen in late April at the popular northern Baja surf spot, K-38. Then, they didn’t show up to their previously-booked Airbnb, and Callum was absent from work in San Diego. That’s when the search began. Their car was later found burned out, and their bodies, shot and dropped at the bottom of a well.

Now, authorities have arrested another suspect in connection with the crime.
On Tuesday, Mexican officials announced the arrest of Angel Jesus “N,” 31, of Ensenada. In a press release, as translated to English, Baja authorities explained:
“Close communication and inter-institutional coordination between the Baja California Citizen Security Secretariat (SSCBC) and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) allowed agents of the K-9 Unit of the State Citizen Security Force (FESC) to arrest a man suspected of being involved in the crime of homicide, committed against three people of foreign origin who were carrying out tourist activities in the municipality of Ensenada.”

Previously, one Jesús Gerardo ‘N’, alias ‘El Kekas’, had been arrested for the crime. But authorities knew that others were involved. In a press release, then, they noted:
“While the foreigners were camping, they were surprised by Jesús Gerardo ‘N’, and other people, with the intention of stealing their vehicle and due to the reaction of the victims, they deprived them of their lives.”
Since the killings, the surf world and beyond has grieved the loss of Callum, Jake, and Jack. Surfers in Baja gathered in protest, and called for a safer situation, both for themselves and for those who travel to the well-trodden, well-loved surf region.
