It’s safe to say the North Shore’s Nathan Florence has had. good year.
Last month, he was honored with the titles Surfer of the Year and Ride of the Year at the inaugural Big Wave Challenge awards in Nazaré, Portugal. The latter award was for his insane bomb at Mullaghmore Head in Ireland.
He spent most of the year on his self-proclaimed Slab Tour, chasing and scoring waves in Scotland, Indo, and Namibia, to name a few. He even managed to surf the first huge well of the year on the North Shore.
But Slab Tour continues.
The latest stop is a “mutant slab” in the Azores, an archipelago made of nine volcanic islands located nearly a thousand miles off the coast of Portugal.
Florence titled his latest edit above:
“The Azores Islands the Barrels, the Beatdowns, and the Slab Tour Stop 15!
Florence is surfing and traveling with North Shore friend and surfer Kiron Jabour.
The vlog’s got a lot of surfing, plus some downtime footage and local insight on saving waves in the Azores.
For the third time this year, the airlines didn’t get Florence’s boards there on time so they reached out to local surfers and borrowed boards.
“We’re yet again on borrowed boards and we’ll be testing them for the first time at what is probably gonna be a mutant slab,” he said.
Viewers were psyched on the video in the comments below:
“Nate you mad dog!! This has to be one of the best sessions on the slab tour! Hats off to you guys because damn that wave had teeth and a hungry appetite!”
“Damn Nate, you charge so hard man. You have no fear whatsoever. No wonder you won Surfer of the Year. Fav surf vlog hands down. Thank you man for risking it all. We salute you!!!”
