Like Mikey February’s style, Casablanca is timeless. First settled in the seventh century BC by the Berbers (not to be confused with Biebers), it’s been used as a port city by everyone from the Phoenicians to the Romans. The Portuguese showed up 1468 and turned it into a hangout for pirates and privateers. After trashing the joint, Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah (the grandson of Moulay Ismail and an ally of George Washington) rebuilt the city between 1756 and 1790 with the help of the Spanish. So, if you were ever wondering by Casablanca, and Morocco at large, has such a unique, worldly flavor, there you go. It’s been a literal crossroads on the northwest corner of Africa since time began.
Fast forward to Mikey February. Dropping the third video installment of his Moroccan adventure, once again we find him well-poised on another extended right-hand pointbreak. A master of flow with a keen eye for putting his well-crafted surfboards in just the right spot, he tames the Atlantic energy like few others. Spending these four minutes minutes watching him do is thing is a masterclass in body mechanics, fluid dynamics and just all around epic surf style. Maybe it has to do with his sense of place and connection to African surf scapes, and maybe it’s the waves are just so perfectly suited to his brand of surfing, whatever it is, Mikey and Morocco are great pairing.
