Wavepools are synonymous with surfing innovation.
Airs, flips, kickflips, freakishly long barrels…that kind of stuff.
But Jamie O’Brien went a different route during a recent trip to Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch. He was innovative, for sure, but also just whacky. Cue the circus music.
A few weeks back, we got a glimpse at J.O.B.’s trip to the Surf Ranch, but somehow this clip got cut – just the coffin from the end. Regardless, here it is in all its glory.
Alright, let’s break it down.
J.O.B. takes off on a soft-top, fins first. Then, pops a shuv-it to kick off the wave.
He then cruises along, shifts into a sneaker-five for his first tube of the wave.
Then, things get interesting.
He stumbles in an attempt to sit down on his board, instead falling to his stomach, then regains composure, and pops up on his butt like he’s riding a go-kart.
From there, he gets thoroughly slotted while sitting down.
Upon exit of the tube, he shifts to coffin position, and holds his hands in prayer.
Top it off with a sitting 360 at the end of the wave, before standing up once again for the kickout.
Voila. Chef’s kiss.
What would the judges score this wave at the upcoming Surf Ranch Pro? If they could award negative points, they probably would. To each their own, I guess.
