For better or worse, YouTube filmers are all around the world these days, capturing swells in real time and uploading the highlights as they unfold.
Case in point: This clip from Desert Point was uploaded the day after the footage was shot last week. if you’ve ever been to Desert’s, you know how much of a mission it is just to get there, much less get there to film, edit and then upload the footage within 48 hours of it happening. It’s a serious (and commendable) commitment.
Click play above to watch the highlights from July 6, during the biggest swell of the season (so far). As you’ll see, there were some cartoonishly perfect tubes rifling down the point, like the one Rodrigo Saldanha rode to perfection at the 2:15 mark (also see below). Of course, the reality of the day was that waves that good were few and far between, and snagging one off the 50 person pack was a task in itself.
So, was it worth the mission over? If you’re a featured surfer in this clip, it’s a resounding yes. But if you were stuck in the middle of that hungry crowd and never even caught a wave? Well, we’d imagine you might have a different answer.
