17-year-old Caity Simmers won her first Championship Tour event in only her third try.
That’s after qualifying for the CT twice in two years. She actually gave up her spot on Tour in 2022 because she “wasn’t quite ready”.
She’s obviously ready now.

Simmers is all the rage at the moment, and for good reason. Absolute shredding aside, she’s also endearing in other ways: She takes surfing less seriously than most, poking fun at bad questions in post-heat interviews, smiling after losses, and making YouTube edits like this one, titled “CAITY SIMMERS EXTREME SURF COMPETITION VLOG,” after her first major CT win.
Filmed and edited by her friend, Guilherme Martins, this “Vlog” details her time in Portugal, from pre-event practice to a post-comp victory dinner. A time capsule of her first CT win, expect more of these in the future. And while she’s only a rookie, it wouldn’t surprise us to see her win the WSL Finals at Lowers — a wave 30 minutes from her Oceanside, California hometown.
