Much like golf courses, wave pools are emerging as a top amenity option for high-end real estate developments. That means, along with your luxury condo, they’ll toss in access to one of the world’s leading synthetic surfing operations. Housing-meets-manmade-surfing projects are popping up across the globe – from Brazil, to Europe, to the United States, and beyond.
One of which being Cabo Real Surf Club, in Los Cabos, Mexico, and it’s being helmed by the heir to the Charles Schwab investment brokerage conglomerate, Michael Schwab. The wave pool alone, which is being powered by Endless Surf, is said to cost around $35 million. Then there’s the real estate component, with homes on the lower end starting at $2.5 million, all the way up to $6 mill.
Schwab, an avid surfer himself, listened to his father when he was looking for something to invest in. Recalling a conversation with his father to realtor.com about the new project in Cabo, and his early investment in the Kelly Slater Wave Company, Schwab said:
“He said, ‘Michael, why don’t you invest in what you’re passionate about?’ I said, ‘Dad, that’s surfing,’ thinking he’s not going to approve. He goes, ‘I know.’ I thought, ‘OK, wait, he’s not going to look down on me for investing in what I’m passionate about?’ And thank God he said that to me, because the next year, Kelly asked me to invest.”

But now, Schwab’s off on his own in the wild west of wave pools, starting his own project, Cabo Real Surf. And in addition to the surf park, the facility will feature a clubhouse, restaurants, a wellness center, fitness classes, adventure excursions, and yes, a golf course.
Already, teenage surf phenom Erin Brooks has invested in a multi-million-dollar home at Cabo Real Surf. Speaking to realtor.com, she said: “The private, world-class wave pool is a game changer; and the fitness center, beach club, tennis courts, and golf course provide everything I need to stay in peak shape, elevate my surfing, and make the most of every day.”
Cabo Real Surf is set to open in 2026.
