Channel Islands is always on the forefront of surfboard design. From Dane Reynolds’ Neckbeard to Bobby Martinez’s Bobby Quad and so many boards in-between.
The latest surfboard model that’s making a lot of noise is the G-Skate, from the Gudauskas bros: Pat, Dane and Tanner. With a flat rocker, pulled in swallow tail, extra volume and a 2+1 fin setup, at first glance you’d think it’s meant for junk surf. A groveler.
While it can grovel, the reality is that the G-Skate is meant for so much more. Want to ride it at 6-foot Haleiwa? Go for it. How about solid Off-the-Wall? Works there too.
“It opens up that pallet of different feelings — we love having one board you can rip on in many different conditions,” says Pat in the video breakdown above, from pro tester and surfboard critic Noel Salas.
“Tanner describes his surfboard as a stock 5’6”,” Salas writes in the description alongside this review. “He said they collaborated to make a great surfboard for small California waves, but found it totally performs in Hawaii during large swells. They want surfers to be able to modify the board with the right fins and the right wave conditions, so they can have the most fun and success with this surfboard. Tanner rides the G-Skate as a thruster, while Pat loves to ride it as a Twin + Trailer for a little more speed and control. The target range for this board is waist- to head-high plus, the board fits well in barrels and can be used as a daily driver.”
