Two-time world champ John John Florence likes to lay low.
But in between stealth surf trips and sailing adventures, Florence manages to get a few things done, like even more surfing and making short films.
Florence scored birthday barrels last month surfing with brother and Surfer of the Year, Nathan. He’s also released a new short film that was more of a love letter to one of his favorite surf breaks, called Haleiwa. Lucky for his fans, Florence’s love for videography overflows into the occasional vlog as well, like the one below that he just released.
Florence captioned the short edit above:
“Mini Barrels and Tricks.
“First two sessions back home. Love these small days! On the @PyzelSurfboardsInternational White Tiger and Red Tiger.”
For about seven minutes, the video features Florence and North Shore surf buddies Ivan (his brother), Eli Olson, Makana Pang, and Barron Mamiya just having fun.
As the name implies, it’s barrels and tricks on small waves at home in his backyard. It’s a no-dialogue, music-only, pure surf video.
And get a look at Ivan’s beard. It’s impressive.
The video got good feedback, see for yourself in the comments below:
“Does anybody notice that whenever John catches a wave, the whole lineup turns and watches.”
“Awesome video as always, you’re easily my favorite surfer John. Great stuff dude!!”
“Why do we call MJ (Michael Jordan) the greatest ever? Because he brought a completely different air-defying art form to the game and made it look easy. Same here…JJF is the MJ of the water hands down, no question. Keep soaring high, it is the way…JJ.”
