During a recent — and terrifyingly large — tow swell at Jaws, Kai Lenny took an awkward fall while attempting to pull through the back of a 25-foot wave. His tow partner immediately rushed in for the rescue, but the next wave swallowed them both whole.
“It was going to be a really tight pick-up,” Lenny recounts in the edit above. “The foam was really deep and as soon as I was on the sled I just heard the engine screaming and no traction going through the impeller. That wave was creeping up on us, and I was going to hold on and hope it shot us out, but before I knew it we hit a chop, and were sent into oblivion.”
While Lenny and his partner were safely rescued by two safety skis quickly after, Lenny’s machine was violently smashed on the rocks, forcing him to call in a helicopter to retrieve the mangled mess.
All is well that ends well, of course. But we can’t help but wonder about Lenny’s bill for that unlucky mishap.
