A few weeks back, we saw a glimpse at Kai Lenny’s latest foil antics…
He was tow surfing his hydrofoil behind his wife, Molly, who was riding a horse along the beach somewhere in Indonesia. Pretty wacky.
But now, we’ve got the full edit from the horse-powered tow-session; see below:
“Now we’re going with the original horsepower,” Kai says in the video. “Literally, a horse. One isn’t enough, so we’re gonna go twin horsepower. These magnificent animals are so powerful. One will probably get me going faster than I want to on a foil, but…”
Then, they’re off.
On the first attempt, Kai gets yanked swiftly before he can get to his feet – pretty different when compared to the gentle acceleration from a jetski.
“Too much horsepower!” Kai says. “He just yanked me out of the water so fast. I need like…a quarter horsepower.”
From a cursory Google search for reference, per jetski aficionado website JetDrift:
“The non-supercharged (naturally aspirated) jet skis typically produce 60 -180 HP, while the supercharged models offer 230-310 HP.”
But apparently, it doesn’t quite compare to the real thing.
“I thought I needed more horsepower,” Kai reflects, “but one horse is like 200 horsepower.”
Eventually, Kai and his wife Molly (who was riding the horse) get the calibrations right. And it surprisingly works. But Kai didn’t come out completely unscathed.
As the disclaimer from the beginning of the video says:
“No horses were harmed in the making of this video.
“However, Kai may need a shoulder replacement.
“Lol.”
