Kelly Slater has launched, or had a stake in, a handful of businesses over the years.
There’s been surfboards (Slater Designs), traction pads (K-Grip), organic energy drinks (Purps), wavepools (Kelly Slater Wave Co.) and clothing brands (Outerknown).
But it looks like something new is coming from the 11x World Champ.
In a cryptic Instagram Story, Slater provided a link to a website. Upon clicking the link and entering one’s email address (apologies to my future self for the incoming deluge of spam emails), a message arrives, announcing: “Welcome to the world of KLLY.”
KLLY?
Sea turtles?
The moon?
There’s a link in the email to “join our community,” which directs clickers to an Instagram page:

KLLYFootwear.
A shoe company?
There’s more pictures of sea turtles and the moon, a shot of a discarded plastic water bottle on the beach paired with some sort of manufacturing equipment (ahem, sustainability), and one post that says “BLOOM: Made with algae.”
So, it looks like it’s an eco-friendly footwear company made from algae and recycled materials. And sea turtles are involved…and the moon…somehow.
The official announcement is supposed to drop tomorrow, May 18th; stay tuned.
