Kelly Slater goes where he wants, when he wants.
Since falling off tour in Western Australia (before receiving a wildcard for the remainder of the season), Slater scored pumping Snapper Rocks, surfed Hawaii’s new standing wave then, now, has reemerged stateside just in time for the upcoming Surf Ranch Pro.
Must be nice being the GOAT.
Slater showed up the other day at SoCal’s surfing skatepark, Lower Trestles, and per usual, had some interesting shapes he was testing out – one double-stringer quad, and one single-stringer thruster. Pretty on brand for the 11x World Champ to last-minute test out new surfboards…even so close to a big moment in his career.
Also on brand for Slater is for him to still – at 51 years young – blow minds in any and all conditions, like from another Lowers session with an easily-stomped full-rote.
(Oh, and speaking of brands, he also started a new one of those, too.)
“A guy in his 50s doing big punts just hits different!” commented Aussie air god, Josh Kerr.
Think Slater’s looking good ahead of the event at his “home spot,” the Surf Ranch?
We’ll have to wait and see; the Surf Ranch Pro runs May 27th-28th.
