You can hear the hoots coming from the channel on this one. They started even before Laura Enever was well and truly inside the tube. After taking a five-year hiatus from Shipstern Bluff, she was about to get her best wave to date there.
After Laura took a few slams that would send mere mortals scurrying, her tow partner picked the perfect wave, and Laura rode the perfect line. Take notes of how she seamlessly goes off the step and almost casually positions herself in a clean 12-foot tube. Peruse the water angle below.

Laura has checked off a lot of heavy water boxes in 2024. Cloudbreak, Teahupo’o and Shippies. She’s paid her dues at the latter. While she had an affinity for larger surf as a teenager, it wasn’t until she busted her knee at the Jaws contest in 2016 that she started committing to her passion and away from competition. In 2020, Laura released her film Undone, chronicling her transition from the WSL’s Championship Tour to the world of big waves and mean slabs. She tackled Shipstern Bluff for the first time in 2018 after making the two-hour trek through the park. Wipeouts in 10-foot barrels ensued, but Laura took notes from the local crew, stuck with it and eventually held her line.
Now six years later and after not surfing here for five seasons, she can still click into gear. Also, we must tip a cap to Laura’s fashion sense. The red board plays.
