A beloved member of the surf community has passed away.
Lyon Herron, the Malibu surfer, moto rider, and photographer, died yesterday after a long battle with cancer. He was 31 years old.
Earlier this month, Surfer’s Jake Howard reported that Herron was entering hospice care, calling him, “A warrior in the truest sense of the world, after being diagnosed with Gardner Syndrome when he was 17 and absolutely going to the mattresses against the tumors that ravaged his body for the last decade.”
Lyon’s mother shared the news of his passing yesterday in the post above and captioned it:
“My baby traded in his broken body for golden wings this morning at 11:27 am. I need a moment to process it all because honestly, I’m not sure how to do life without him.
“My mama heart is shattered but at the same time resting in peace with his knowing that the suffering died alongside [his] body.
“Thank you all for sharing your tremendous hearts with us. Lyon Skylar Herron 5.12.92 – 12.17.23”
Surfers from all over the world shared words of support in the comments:
