Mark Richards, the four-time World Champion and professional surfing pioneer from Newcastle, Australia, is headed stateside to build custom boards with the …Lost team in San Clemente. On Monday, June 17th, Richards will be chatting it up at Bashams Surfboard Manufacturing and Supply Co., which is currently being remodeled. The “Evening with an Icon” Festivals commence at 5 p.m.
At age 67, Richards is one of the few surfers who can lay claim to winning multiple world titles on boards he built entirely himself. Singles, twins and thrusters, Richards is still building them all. One of his most popular boards is a model he and Matt “Mayhem” Biolos collaborated on back in 2019: The California Twin, which comes in swallow and pin forms, depending on your needs. As Biolos once said about the first iteration, it has “gobs of glide in gutless surf.”
During his SoCal stint this June, MR will build only from select models: The Cali Twin, the 1980 Retro Twin, the 1979 Retro Single Fin, Super Twins, Turbo Twin, Flying Fish & Bushranger Thrusters. Word on the street is he’s also unveiling a new channel-bottom twin fin.
