Mason Ho’s got a thing for rocks.
At certain spots, during certain tides, where most wouldn’t even consider paddling out, Mason’s on it. He’s not afraid to lose a fin, hit the bottom, tear off a little skin.
Like this clip below; Noa Deane and Shaun Manners opt to bodyboard this slab wave, due to the sheer shallowness of the setup, but Mason goes for a surf.
Captioning the vid, Mason’s filmer Rory Pringle writes:
“In this video Noa Deane & Shaun Manners set the pace by grabbing their boogs and paddling straight out to this borderline not ridable cool looking wave. Mason just coming off his injury tries not to go out but can’t resist with Moose telling him he has to at least try. The boys have a dreamy time until Noa goes super hero mode on his drag dworf losing his fins and slicing his foot on the reef. Bloody good times.”
We’ve seen Mason with this crew, and surfing what appears to be either the same or a very similar slab recently – both during a very approachable swell, and one not so much.
This time, it’s somewhere in the middle. But it’s sharp and shallow and Noa even takes a beating on the rocks, as mentioned in the caption.
Inspecting the wound, Mason says: “That’s Noa Deane DNA, brah! I just wanna take it.”
If Mason keeps this going, he might just have to team up with Nathan Florence on his patented “Slab Tour.” Or maybe, one day, that could become an actual thing?
One can dream.
