The dream team of Mason Ho and Rory Pringle know what’s up when it comes to cutting endlessly entertaining YouTube edits. But what you don’t always see is the tech that powers them. Enter GoPro’s latest HERO13 Black and their new unboxing video.
As summer shifts to winter, surfing’s attention gravitates towards the North Shore of Oahu once again, where we find Mase and Rory experimenting with their new toy. Taking it for a spin in fun-size barrels on the sand, and dodging a few rocks along the way, Mase uses the new HERO13 Black, shooting in 4k at 120fps. The GoPro mouth mount is his tool of choice to help capture the footage, which is tack sharp and popping with color.
But that seems to just scratch the surface of what the new GoPro camera can do. According to the company, the HERO13 can capture up to 400 frames per second at HD-quality 720p video, as well as 5.3K at 120 frames per second and 900p at 360 frames per second video. It also has WiFi 6 technology to speed up the transfer of content from the camera to the computer.
“HERO13 Black features four new interchangeable lens mods that HERO13 automatically detects and adjusts its settings for, magnetic latch mounting, GPS, and a more powerful battery that provides longer runtimes and improved thermal performance,” shared GoPro Founder and CEO Nick Woodman in a press release earlier this month.
If what we’re seeing from Mase and Rory is just a quick test of the new rig, it’s going to be a lot of fun to see what they’re able to do when the surf’s properly pumping.
