You’ve probably heard by now that Oahu’s Moana Jones Wong took home the trophy in the women’s division of the Vans Pipe Masters.
In the final, she took out fellow Hawaii surfer Carissa Moore, Australian Molly Picklum, and Canada’s Erin Brooks.
According to Nathan Fletcher, “She took it to Pipeline like no other female took it to Pipeline. It’s second to none for the women at Pipeline. What we saw in the water has never been done.”
That means a lot coming from a surf legend like Fletcher.
Moana posted the clip above yesterday and captioned it:
“Sitting out the back in the final I asked for this wave and it came. I love this @gopro angle because you can see the beauty of this wave.
“You can see how special it is to ride inside the ocean. I believe when you are in the barrel that’s as connected as you can be to the ocean. When you come out and it spits on you I feel like that’s the ocean kissing you.
“I was interested to see if I would be smiling in this barrel because this one was pretty big and scary but I checked the clip and there I was smiling. I truly find so much joy and happiness out here. Thank you @vanssurfevents“
In the clip above, Moana, a goofy-footer, pulls into a beautiful bright blue barrel at Pipe.
She’s smiling the entire time and after getting spit out, she claims the wave with a huge grin on her face.
Pure bliss.
