Surfers sure know how to find the silver lining in storm clouds.
While non-surfers normally cringe at a bad weather report, surfers get excited for storm surf.
Last weekend, New York City and Long Island got slammed with around nine inches of rain that caused airport and subway floods, school closures, and an escaped sea lion at the Central Park Zoo.
While New York City struggled, others took longboards into the street.
The East Coast Chapter of the Black Surfing Association, known on Instagram as Black_Surfing_Rockaway, captioned the clip above:
“The best Surf break on Long Island! I see you my brother! @your_local_shwamma_head_@longislandwiseguy“
The clip shows a regular footer on a yellow longboard surfing down a flooded street while it’s pouring rain.
At one point, he crouches down and throws a double shaka at the camera.
Storms have brough some epic waves and inspired surfers to get creative in the last couple of months.
In August, surfers were treated to rare pumping surf in Alabama thanks to Hurricane Idalia. Over in New Jersey, Ben Gravy scored barrel after barrel thanks to the same storm.
Californians went tow-surfing behind cars through flooded neighborhood streets after Hurricane Hillary, and a Florida woman went stand-up paddling through flooded streets with her dog.
Viewers had fun commenting on this one:
“Talk about making lemonade”
“Lol Amazon not playing, they gonna get your package to ya lol”
“That’s one way to deal with it”
“That is fabulous”
“I hope he got his tetanus shots”
“BREAKING LEFT IN THE BURBS!!!”
