Jamie O’Brien has been scoring Pipeline, which is literally in his front yard, since the first big swell of the season hit the North Shore in October.
We all know how it goes when there’s good surf. It’s a little tougher to run errands and to get work done.
For O’Brien, surfing is a double edged sword. It’s work that fuels his vlog, which currently has around 918,000 subscribers and 860 videos, but might actually get in the way of making those vlogs. So maybe that’s why J.O.B. re-released his biographical movie, Who Is J.O.B.?, instead of a vlog with fresh footage this week.
O’Brien’s caption for his latest post is straightforward:
“WHO IS J.O.B | The Jamie O’Brien movie”
The hour-long movie tells O’Brien’s life story, from childhood, to family dynamics, and the struggles along the way that led him to become one of the best tube riders out at Pipe.
Cameos from Kelly Slater, Bruce Irons, and J-Fred, add to the fun.
“Jamie’s a guy who sort of pushes that envelope with people. People either love him or hate him,” Slater says.
Irons shares his perspective on O’Brien too:
“He just does his own trip, he’s got his own style. He don’t give a fuck, a lot of people don’t like it. You’d want to slap this guy’s head, but in person Jamie’s the nicest guy in the world,” Irons said.

Viewers were “psyched” on the video. Check out the comments below:
“Very deep especially the part about your mom and just all the childhood struggles. Getting through all that is so much more inspirational to me than any of the surfing(which is amazing btw) love u job!”
“This is awesome. Had no idea about much of JOB’s childhood. Makes me like him even more. What a story, I’ll continue to tune in to see the rest of the story. Keep spreading positive vibes and staying psyched, it’s good for the world!”
