It’s always a party when someone might die.
Hence, the party wave session with Laguna Beach native, world champion skimboarder, and soft-top virtuoso, Blair Conklin, and a session at Oahu’s China Walls.
Conklin was joined by the rest of the CatchSurf crew for the session. Watch the mayhem, mixed in with the laughs, below:
Conklin captioned the clip:
“RAW: Catch Surf Team in Hawaii . Leave it to these boys to have the most fun that is physically possible while going straight on a wave. The surfers include Kalani Robb, Johnny Redmond, Max Bourne, Sterling Bowen, Blair Conklin, and friends. This wave can be very dangerous and has claimed the lives of several inexperienced visitors. If you jump in the water at this destination I strongly suggest you have a good exit plan and a more experienced friend to show you the ropes of this break.”
As Conklin hinted, this wave is not super safe. Just recently, Jamie O’Brien called it the “most dangerous” wave on Oahu’s South Shore. JOB continued:
“This is the wave right here,” JOB says in the video. “You just takeoff right here alongside this wall. It can be really dangerous. I actually saw Kaikea [Elias] get shredded up really bad. It looked like he wiped out at Teahupo’o.”
Also, just recently in October, a 24-year-old visitor from New York jumped from the rocks at China Walls, and hit his head.
Surfers saw the incident, which happened just before 6:00pm, and jumped into action, after the victim was being swept out to sea. They used their surfboards to get the man to shore and keep him afloat. No word if he was unconscious or not.
Emergency medical services personnel and lifeguards reached the scene within minutes and began administering life support on the man.
Party waves at China Walls? Sure. But only for those who know what they’re doing.
