Collin Bosse suffered a paralyzing accident while swimming in San Diego.
The 23-year-old recent San Diego State graduate, by way of Santa Barbara, dove headfirst into unexpectedly shallow water, knocking his noggin and neck, and leaving him paralyzed from the waist down, back on that fateful day of April 18th.
He was transferred to Scripps Memorial Hospital; emergency surgeries took place.
Per a GoFundMe organized by Bosse’s family, they wrote:
“On April 8th, Collin Bosse suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury. Thanks to the quick action of his friends, he was immediately transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery. Collin is in the ICU and receiving medical care from the talented staff who have done an amazing job to help our son, brother, and friend begin his road to recovery and back to his passion, surfing. Collin has been surrounded by loved ones during the initial days of his journey.
“Collin’s family and surf pals decided, after discussing the family’s consideration, that this opportunity to raise funds for the path ahead was going to ensure he gets all the support he can. After overwhelming feedback from all his friends, this part of Collin’s road is being paved by all of you!”
As of now, the GoFundMe has received nearly $200,000 of their $300,000 goal to fund Bosse’s extensive medical bills.
In an update, the family added:
“While Collin has to wait a year from his injury to start participating in adaptive sports, he was able to watch his new buddies’ adaptive surf session and is frothing for his return to surfing!”
And a note from Collin himself:
“I don’t know if I will get as close to where I was before the accident in terms of surfing. But I will 100% surf again. There’s no doubt in my mind.”
Right on, legend.
