Shakira is a goofyfoot…that’s something I never imagined knowing, nor typing.
And yet here we are, and the Colombian singer has been steadily posting videos to social media of her progression in wake surfing. In just two years, she’s gone from nervously letting go of the rope, to just a few days ago when she was cracking the lip.
Check out the most recent clip below.

The 46-year-old “Hips Don’t Lie” songstress is seen cruising behind the boat, no rope needed, then smacking a few frontside turns on a knee-high wake. She still looks a little bit hesitant with her frontside shwacks – a tad shaky, some interesting arm movements – but generally that’s not bad for just two years of wake surfing.
Flashback to last month, in May, when she posted another video of her wake surfing, and there’s already improvement. Check that one out below:

And then, going back to January of 2021, Shakira posted a clip featuring her first go. She captioned that one: “For the record, my first time wake surfing! Wheeee!”
In that clip, she still uses the tow rope for assistance before tossing it away and riding the wave unaided for a couple seconds. She’s cautious, a bit wobbly; but she’s still cruising along. She’s also got some serious safety gear – including a helmet – just in case.

Today, though, the progression is clear. Smaller board, no tow rope assistance, less safety gear, less shaking knees, and a couple half-decent slaps off the lip.
Next up, let’s get Shakira in the ocean in some real waves.
