A windsurfer was attacked by a shark on Christmas Eve in Western Australia.
The 46-year-old was windsurfing on Wedge Island, about 150km north of Perth, on Sunday around 3:00 pm when an unidentified shark tore into his ankle. After the attack, he was transferred to Joondalup Hospital.
He is in stable condition.
Following the attack, authorities closed the beach.
Regarding previous attacks in the area, here’s Perth Now:
“The last shark attack near Wedge Island occurred in 2012 where a man was killed by a 4m great white.
“Ben Linden, 24, had risen early to go surfing with his friend but never made it back to shore.
“WA has followed a trend of increasing shark bite incidents reported, with the yearly average from 1990 to 2000 being 1.5; 2001 to 2009 being four and 2010-2020 being six.”
This is a developing story.
