After a 4-year hiatus, Skeleton Bay is back.
Nobody is more stoked about that fact right now than Nic Von Rupp, whose gamble on striking a swell to Namibia’s ever-changing sandbar just paid off. Big time.
As we mentioned recently, Skeleton Bay hasn’t seen a significant day since 2019. And that’s not for a lack of swell. There have been multiple swells over the last few years, but the sand just wasn’t cooperating. The razor-edged sand point was sectioning off, mile long tubes turning into closeouts instead. In fact, some began to question whether the sand had permanently changed for the worst. And wondering if it was ever coming back.
After the last few days, those concerns can be put to bed. The sand is back, and Skeleton Bay is very much alive and well.
Click play above for a mind-bending 9-minute highlight reel featuring Von Rupp and friends from the last few days. These guys are getting more tubed on one wave than most will in a decade.
The world’s greatest sandbar still exists. At least, for now.
