About a week ago, we heard about a harrowing shark attack in Western Australia.
It involved a surfer at Margaret River, who was “bleeding heavily” following the attack, then swam some 600 meters to shore, alone, basically “saving his own life.”
And now, Jack Frost, the 24-yer-old surfer from Ballina in northern NSW, has spoken about the incident, and how he got out alive; check out the footage below:
“I was sitting on my board it just fucking came up and smacked me,” Frost told SwellNet.
Frost continued:
“I ended up sort of spinning backwards. Kind of…what’s the word? Not manhandled, but shouldered by it. But I just figured I’m not going to roll over for it, so I moved onto its back and started punching its head a few times. That doesn’t really do much; it didn’t even flinch. But then I started punching it in the side towards the gills and I must have got one punch in where it’s touch sensitive and it just fucking shot down into the depths.
“It went quiet and then I got back on my board. Thank fuck my legrope wasn’t in its mouth.”
From there, Frost had to make the long paddle to shore, telling himself the entire time: “You’re going to be all right. You’re going to survive.”
He made it, where he flagged down some folks on the beach. They used his leash to tie a tourniquet around his leg to stop the bleeding. Then, he was driven to the hospital, where they stitched up the wound and that’s how it remains, under dressing.
As for whether or not he’ll be surfing again after the incident?
“Yeah, a hundred percent. I’m keen to get back out there. I know I’m pretty lucky to have that experience and come out on top…
“I did a lot of solo surfing before this; surfed a lot of bommies and shit, which never really worried me. I think now I’ll be a bit more cautious and be surfing with at least one other person.”
Legend.
