There’s trouble in paradise.
Last year, a warehouse used by online surf shop Used Surfboards Hawaii (USH) went up in flames, taking surfers’ consignment boards with it.
Over a year later, people who had items for sale through the retailer haven’t been compensated and they’re not happy.
KITV News posted the story above on X, fka Twitter, and captioned :
“Oahu used surfboard shop owes thousands to customers who lost boards in 2022 warehouse fire”
KITV News spoke to Oahu resident Susan Leong, who was selling a surfboard and three pairs of fins at the surf shop.
Leong told KITV that she has yet to be reimbursed for her loss, despite being told she would be.
She told KITV:
“There was a large number of us, probably hundreds of us that had boards on consignment there for sale. We reached out to the owner at the time, sending him our well wishes, and we were told as soon as he received the information from the insurance that he would reach out to us.”
In July, USH posted a statement on Instagram saying they’d completed the insurance settlement and would reimburse people who had items on consignment.
In the post, USH stated that sellers would be compensated “75% of the listed value” and over 3,000 claims would be paid out via PayPal starting with the oldest transactions.
But, Leong says she’s followed up with USH monthly and hasn’t been reimbursed yet.
KITV tried to contact USH’s owner but wasn’t able to get in touch with him.
According to its website, Used Surfboards Hawaii is an online-only, used surfboard distributor that was launched in 2012.
