Anyone who knows former pro surfer Benji Weatherley, probably thinks it’s fitting that he’s the host of his own podcast, Let’s Poddy.
It’s also no surprise that he’s embarked on a post-surf career venture as a stand-up comedian either because that’s basically what he’s always been.
Although Weatherley claims that Let’s Poddy is “the podcast where you learn absolutely nothing,” we beg to differ. It’s fun, it’s entertaining, and we do learn interesting things about interesting people. Take, for instance, Weatherley’s latest guest, San Clemente’s Cole Houshmand, who recently clinched his spot on the 2024 Championship Tour.
Let’s Poddy captioned the latest episode of the podcast above:
“In this Poddy, Benji sits down with professional surfer Cole Houshmand.
“They recount what it took this past season for Cole to qualify for his first year on the WSL Championship Tour and what his goals are for his first season.
“They also cover the logistics of being on tour for most of the year as well as the best and worst parts of always being on the road.”
The podcast does its job, since we learn a lot about Houshmand, including:
- He’s tall at 6’2. Weatherley’s not a small guy either, so they bond over being tall surfers.
- Houshmand’s also Persian and his dad was born in Iran.
- Benji thinks Houshmand is a “really good-looking dude.”
- Houshmand says the guys on his tour crew are “really truly like brothers.”
Press play above for over an hour of good conversation and insight into tour life between Houshmand and Weatherley.
