The Surfers’ Hall of Fame has honored members of the surf community who have made meaningful impacts on the sport’s culture and industry since its inception in 1997.
It’s an honor for anyone who loves surfing to be immortalized through the ceremony by leaving a lasting handprint on the sidewalk.
In August, the organization will welcome pro surfer and Olympic champion Italo Ferreira, surf writer Laylan Connelly, and Fernando Aguerre, president of the International Surfing Association.
Hall of fame organizer Huntington Surf & Sport captioned the above post: “We are honored to announce the induction of three incredible individuals into The Surfers’ Hall of Fame: the World Champion and Olympic Gold medalist @italoferreira, @ocbeaches, one of the greatest storytellers from our sport, and the visionary @fernandoaguerre. 🌟🔥 Their passion, dedication, and undeniable talent have shaped the sport of surfing.”
The induction ceremony will take place Friday, August 4, at 9 a.m. at the corner of Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington, California. The area is just steps from Huntington Beach Pier, the site of the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing, and a bronze statue of Duke Kahanamoku overlooks the site.
The three new members will join surf legends such as Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Laird Hamilton, and Ben Aipa, among many others.
“The sport of Surfing has such an amazing history, spirit, and culture all its own. We are super stoked to be able to preserve a part of our Surfing History in this unique and special way, for future generations to enjoy. We are here for the love of surfing. That is our main purpose, our passion, and our drive behind what we do,” Aaron Pai, founder of Surfers’ Hall of Fame said in a press release.
