Stephen Gilchrist Glover, also known as Steve-O, is quite a character.
According to his website, he “was willing to do whatever it took to become famous, even if it meant stapling his ball sack to his leg.” It worked, and most people probably know him from the show, “Jackass.”
Today, he still loves attention but gets it through a podcast that requires no stapling of any balls to any legs, and his latest guest is eleven-time world champ, Kelly Slater.
A few weeks ago, Slater posted a photo of the two of them in his Instagram story following the interview.
He captioned it:
“Good to catch up with @steveo and do his podcast today. Made it easy having a studio in his sprinter.”
Yesterday, Steve-O released the episode and titled it:
“Kelly Slater Lives With Unbearable Pain – Wild Ride #184”
They cover a bunch of topics, like Slater’s recent hip surgery and the “little bit of arthritis” doctors found.
Three-time world champ Mick Fanning “beating off a shark” is also mentioned, along with personal shark stories.
Slater gets deep about his “Baywatch” days and his “intentionally not good” acting. He admits that he “loves UFC,” and how it’s helped him persevere through pain.
Big wave surfing and people he’s lost to it come up, like Todd Chesser, Mark Foo, and Sion Milosky.
“You gotta be prepared for the worst,” he says. “I’m surprised more people haven’t died to be honest.”
Slater closes with a “legendary Jimmy Buffett story.”
