Rob Machado’s father, Joseph James Machado, died last summer.
Yesterday, Rob shared a heartfelt tribute on social media.
The surf world responded with an outpouring of condolences.
Machado captioned the post above:
“Love you Pops. This past Saturday we had the most beautiful gathering of family and friends at Jimbo’s favorite spot. We paddled him out and said our farewells.
“I can’t even begin to put into words the effect that my Dad had on my life. He wasn’t a man of many words, but the words he spoke were always held in the highest regard. He raised my brother and I to treat others how you wish to be treated.
“To see the best in any situation. To be strong but to have a soft heart. To always stop and smell the roses. Appreciate beauty. Pay attention to the space and time in between because that’s when the true magic happens. And most importantly, to love.
“Love what you do and love the people you surround yourself with. Build an amazing family and watch them blossom because that is the deepest love you can feel.
“The day my dad passed away I paddled out to his spot on his board with no intention to ride waves. But waves came to me totally unexpected. So I rode them. And after a few waves, as I was paddling back out a school of dolphins swam right up beside me and I paddled with them.
“He isn’t gone. He surrounds me now more than he ever has.”
The surf world responded:
Alex Gray: “Heard so many great things about your dad. So sorry for you, family, and friends loss.”
Kalani Robb: “Love u RT”
Bob Hurley: “Beautiful Life. Beautiful words”
Chris Malloy: “Legends live forever”
