Kai Lenny is a freak of nature in big waves. And his brother, Ridge, is no slouch either.
The Maui-born brothers recently nailed something rarely seen in surfing, and something they’ve been trying to do for a long time: surfing a tandem tube at their hometown big-wave spot, Jaws. And Ridge took to TikTok to breakdown the experience:

“As we got towed in and I let go of the rope, I looked close at the camera, and I wasn’t recording,” Ridge said. “So, I hit record and I was like, ‘here we go. Let’s see what happens.’
“At that moment, I turned my attention to the wave and I noticed the wave was stretching out really far. When you see this, it either means you’re going to get closed out on, super pounded, or you’re going to get a crazy barrel. As we were going down the line it became more and more clear that this thing was gonna barrel. This was the shot that we’ve been dreaming of.”

And so, Ridge decided to go for it. He pulled under the lip, deep into the tube on the foamball, and behind his brother. Ridge continued:
“All I could see was this lip coming straight for my face…at that very last second, I was like, ‘screw it, I’m gonna try and pull in. Even if I could get a couple frames of Kai in this barrel it’s gonna be a win.’ Next thing I know, I’m in this barrel with my brother.
“I honestly thought I was going to be a goner at any moment. I was practically blind. I was just surviving. But all of a sudden, I saw light emerging in the distance, and I saw my brother’s silhouette exiting the barrel. Then, the barrel opened up and somehow, I made it out, too. As we came out, it was probably one of the coolest moments we’ve ever shared together.”
No doubt Kai Lenny, and his brother Ridge, are next level in big waves. And this is just another highlight to add to their extensive résumé of insane antics in heavy surf.
